Normally a backmarker in her home state, Miss Cover Girl was sent to the front by Glen Boss who said the tactics were dictated by how the track was playing.
"The pattern of the races today I thought I don't see much speed in the race," Boss said. She jumped well so I was just going to let her control it for me.
"I was surprised that we led but I thought she was very strong."
"I had a look at her record, she's a winner, so when I got to the rise and I was still going alright I thought, well that's going to come into play right now because she's a winner."
Eagle Farm-based trainer Kelly Schweida was winning a race at Randwick for the first time since Better Than Ready won the 2012 Listed Brian Crowley Stakes (1200m).
"We were concerned with the wet track and even more concerned when she led, but we'll take it," Schweida said.
"It's great to get that black type with her, that's what we were chasing."
Schweida said Miss Cover Girl would return home for the Brisbane winter carnival.
The victory takes her overall record to 7 wins, 1 second and 1 third from 11 starts for earnings of $368,900.
Consigned by Blue Hills Thoroughbreds to the 2013 Magic Millions QTIS Yearling sale, Miss Cover Girl failed to make her $20,000 reserve.
She is the first foal of the 4-time winning Show a Heart mare Tolart whose dam I Told You (Sea Road) is a half-sister to the stakes-placed Huntingdon Girl (Black Zephyr) the dam of Group II Stan Fox Stakes winner Dynamic Love (Brave Warrior) and Listed winner Key Bar Nights (Anabaa).
Tolart has an unnamed 2yo filly by Hotel Grand and a yearling colt by Written Tycoon. She was bred back to Monashee Mountain (USA) last spring.
Miss Cover Girl becomes the 17th stakes-winner for Monashee Mountain (USA) (Danzig) who stands at Eliza Park, Queensland at a fee of $3,300.
