A three year-old gelding by Not a Single Doubt, Sure and Fast (images Steve Hart) earned his berth in the lucrative race with a dominant win in the $100,000 Wyong qualifier and was sent out favourite for the 1400 metre final.
Well ridden by Jason Collett from gate two, Sure and Fast swept to the lead over the final furlong and made light of the heavy ground to score by a length.
Murray said his son Paul deserved plenty of credit for Sure And Fast's success, an irony given Paul Murray rode the original Sure and Fast to victory for his father in the Bong Bong Picnic Cup all those years ago.
"He's entitled to most of the credit because he's the Kembla foreman 24/7. He does most of the responsible work so he's entitled to claim plenty of it," Murray said.
"He's a better horse than most of them and that's why he's been able to beat them. I still think they need to have an allowance for the three-year-olds like they do in most races through the year."
A $60,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Middlebrook Valley Lodge draft for his trainer, Sure and Fast has won four of 11 starts earning over $400,000 in prizemoney.
Sure and Fast is one of two winners from Regal Attraction, who comes from the family of Group I winners A Little Kiss, Rising Romance, Rebel Raider and Able One.
