Tattersalls' highly-regarded Craven
Breeze-Up Sale witnessed Emirates Park sire Dream Ahead (USA) again make his
mark in an international sales ring with a select number of representatives
from his first northern hemisphere-bred 2-year-old crop.
Staged over two days coinciding with the first major Newmarket meeting of the
new flat racing season, both sessions witnessed quality Dream Ahead colts
fetching significant six-figure amounts and the breed proving to be very well
received overall.
Day 1 saw a bay son of Dream Ahead from Chanterelle (by Trempolino) secured
with a successful bid of 150,000 gns (approx. $302,292) received from renowned
2-year-old judge Richard O'Gorman. O'Gorman has a history of buying bloodstock
on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed and is a brother of Bill O'Gorman, one of the most
acclaimed British trainers of juveniles of his generation.
The second day of the Craven Breeze-Up Sale saw a chestnut son of Dream Ahead
from the Hussonet mare Maramba go to Gordian Troeller Bloodstock for 160,000
gns (approx. $322,445). This high-profile agency specializes in
horses-in-training purchases and includes amongst its most notable acquisitions
the intercontinental champion racemare Ipi Tombe.
Top-price
paid for a Dream Ahead filly over the two days of trading was 90,000 gns
(approx. $181,375). The daughter of Absolute Music (by Consolidator) was bought
by Tony Nerses, who is believed to have been acting on behalf of Blue Diamond
Stud principals Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar.
Middleham Park Racing also bought a member of
Dream Ahead's Craven Breeze-Up Sale consignment. One of the
most progressive racing concerns in Britain, Middleham Park Racing has been
instrumental in a host of recent Pattern Race winners including Kool Kompany, a
high-class 3-year-old that took out this week's Group 3 Craven Stakes at
Newmarket.
Dream Ahead's
six Craven Breeze-Up representatives sold for an aggregate of 490,000 gns
(approx. $987,488) at an average of close on 82,000 gns (approx. $165,253).
The figure made the Emirates Park dual-hemisphere serving stallion the auction's leading first season sire with 5 or more lots sold.
