One to Watch – Geelong

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday April 22
This blue-blooded Fastnet Rock colt carried the Vinery Stud colours to an impressive victory at Geelong on Wednesday making him an obvious choice for our One to Watch.

Strindberg as a yearlingPrepared by Hawkes Racing, two year-old colt Strindberg improved on his unlucky debut second at Seymour on April 9, bounding straight to the front and leading throughout to win over 1100 metres by more than a length.

"The Fastnet Rocks hardly win at two but he did," co-trainer Wayne Hawkes said.

"The job's done now. We will wait and see before making plans but we're not going to push him."

Winning rider James Winks also praised Strindberg.

"He's the ultimate professional and made my job easy today!" he said.

A $500,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Hawkes Racing from the Kia Ora Stud draft, Strindberg is a full brother to Group II VRC Sires Produce Stakes winner Zululand and is raced by a syndicate of Vinery Stud and clients with Kia Ora Stud also retaining a share.

He is the second foal and second winner for US Group II winner Dream Play (USA), a three-quarter sister to Group I winner Diplomat Lady.

Dream Play has a weanling filly by Fastnet Rock and was covered last year by Exceed and Excel.
