Kevin Hickman's familiar gold silks with navy blue cap have
been carried with distinction in recent years by Silent Achiever and it's
another daughter of O'Reilly that has the Valachi Downs owner back in the
limelight.
The beautifully related three-year-old filly Bohemian Lily
was transferred to Gai Waterhouse after winning just a Trentham maiden from six
starts in New Zealand.
She finished second at Warwick Farm at her first start for
her new stable, which proved the perfect pipe-opener for a tilt at Saturday's
Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1200m).
Ridden by Black Shinn, Bohemian Lily put the pressure on the
Bernardini's undefeated daughter Sheiswhatsheis in the early stages. When she
beat that filly off, Bohemian Lily held the challenge of Col 'n' Lil by a neck
with Sheiswhatsheis holding on well for third.
"This filly was sent over by Kevin Hickman, who has Silent
Achiever running later today. He sent her specifically to target the Queensland
Oaks," Waterhouse revealed.
"I was very impressed how she ran the other day, she done
very well since coming north, her coat has really come right. There was not
much speed in the race so we may as well go forward and she just outstayed
them."
A sister to Group I AJC Australian Derby and VRC Australian
Guineas winner Shamrocker and a half-sister to the recent Group 1 Auckland Cup
winner Rock Diva (Lucky Unicorn), Bohemian Lily is the seventh foal of the
Blues Traveller (IRE) mare Bohemian Blues.
A half-sister to the stakes-winners Fairy Tale and Jureyman,
Bohemian Blues has a 2yo filly by O'Reilly. She missed to Waikato Stud's
deceased champion in 2012 and was covered by Fastnet Rock in 2013.
Bohemian Lily becomes the 79th stakes-winner for
O'Reilly who died at Waikato Stud late last year at the age of 21.
