Book Full

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday May 5
Sometimes a studmaster might wonder whether a young sire has been priced right to appeal to the market, but in the case of this Hunter Valley  young gun, his book is already full.

Johan's ToyAlan Bell enjoyed all the thrills as an owner of racing explosive sprinter Deep Field and showed his support for Newgate Farm's young gun sire in purchasing top class producer Johan's Toy at the Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale on Monday as a future partner for him.

A multiple Group I placed stakes-winner by Danehill's Hong Kong Derby winning son Johan Cruyff (IRE), Johan's Toy was secured for $280,000 in foal to Dundeel.

A proven stakes producer, she is the dam of Group II winner Toydini and her weanling by Animal Kingdom (USA) fetched $200,000 at this sale on Sunday.

"I thought that was about the price range she would make. There was good competition for her, as there should have been, she's a top-class mare and she's been able to throw a very good racehorse. Those mares are very hard to find," Bell told ANZ Bloodstock News.

Deep Field"She's a great looking mare with plenty of Danehill about her and we're hoping the Danehill line suits Deep Field. You can see why she was such good race filly and why she was able to run second in a Doncaster, she's just a beautifully conformed mare, with great bone, very correct and a great presence about her as well.

"She has all the things you look for in a nice racehorse. She's had seven foals but she's held herself together very well and we're very hopeful she can get a nice foal to Deep Field."

A brilliant record breaking son of ill-fated Northern Meteor, Deep Field stands at a fee of $22,000 and his book is full.

His full brother, Caulfield Guineas winner Shooting to Win, has been retired to Darley at a fee of $38,500.
