Gai Has Her Next Northern Meteor Star!

Tara Madgwick - Saturday May 23
Featured as a Breednet 'One to Watch' on more than one occasion, three year-old Northern Meteor filly Najoom keeps going from strength to strength and delivered yet another resounding victory when charging away to win the Group III BRC Fred Best Stakes at Doomben on Saturday in a breeze.

NajoomGai Waterhouse knows how to get the best from a Northern Meteor filly as we have seen with Group I winners Amanpour and Cosmic Endeavour and she'll no doubt be thinking Najoom can make it a hat-trick.

Najoom (pictured Steve Hart) overcame gate 15 under a good ride from Tommy Berry crossing to settle third and then powering right away to win the 1350 metre contest by more than three lengths as favourite.

Consigned for sale by Willow Park Stud as was dual Group I winner Cosmic Endeavour, Najoom was picked up by Emirates Park for $225,000 at the Magic Millions and has the overall record of five wisn and two seconds from seven starts with prizemoney topping $250,000.

She is the second winner for Charlety Star, an unraced sibling by Arena to stakes-winners Upon This Rock, Bhutane Dane and Gaze On from the family of globe-trotting triple Group I winner Criterion.

Charlety Star has a weanling colt by Manhattan Rain and was covered last spring by Dream Ahead (USA).

Najoom is one of 17 stakes-winners for ill-fated Northern Meteor, who has a growing number of sons at stud this spring headed by dual Group I winner Zoustar, whose first foals will be born later this year.
