MM Graduates Dominate Doomben

Media Release - Sunday May 24
Star galloper Boban won a fourth Group One when he won Saturday's Doomben 10,000 capping a massive day for Magic Millions graduates.

The quality sprinter-miler returned to his brilliant best to lead home fellow Gold Coast Yearling Sale graduate Charlie Boy in the feature - one of five stakes wins on the card for Magic Millions products.

BobanBoban showed a blistering turn of foot in the straight to come from the tail of the field, between runners and on to victory in a driving finish over Charlie Boy and Generalife.

An emotional trainer Chris Waller said it was great to see the gelding back to his best declaring him a "serious horse."

Boban was first up in the $750,000 feature and looked to be on track for the assignment with an eye catching trial win at Warwick Farm on May 11.

The win was the 10th for Boban from just 31 starts. With four Group One wins his earnings have raced to a lofty $2,140,163 - not bad considering he cost $100,000 at the 2011 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Bred by Tony Thomas of Greendale Lodge, Boban was sold through the Millbrook draft and purchased for connections by BBA Ireland. He is a son of A.P. Indy's Preakness Stakes winning son Bernardini.

Another of Bernardini's headline performers in the Southern Hemisphere, New Zealand champion Ruud Awakening, will go under the hammer on Wednesday at the National Broodmare Sale.

Boban is one of six winners produced by the former outstanding Kenmare mare Kenbelle - a winner of the Group One AJC Australian Oaks and Group Two Queen of the Turf Stakes. She in turn is a half sister to three stakes performers.

Najoom Najoom earned a crack at the Stradbroke Handicap with a stunning win in the Group Three Fred Best Classic (1350m) at Doomben.

A member of the Gai Waterhouse stable, Najoom over came a horror wide run in the feature for three-year-olds and score a dazzling win in the colours of Emirates Stud.

The Northern Meteor filly looks a real star of the future and connections will now look at running her in the Group One Stradbroke against all comers and test her against the best.

A $225,000 purchase from the draft of Willow Park Stud at the 2014 Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Najoom now boasts the record of five wins and two seconds from just eight starts and earnings of over $253,000.

The filly is the pin up performer to date for her dam, the unraced Arena mare Charlety Star - a half sister to the stakes winners Bhutane Dane, Upon This Rock and Gaze On and the stakes placegetter Rogue Warrior.

Charlety's Star in turn is from a sister to Mica's Pride - the group winning dam of Criterion, Silently and the National Broodmare Sale entries Varenna Miss and Our Pride and Joy.

Peace Force scored a valuable break through group win at Doomben when she scored a driving win in the Group Three Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m).

Prepared by Gerald Ryan, Peace Force has now won over $400,000 for connections - not bad considering she cost just $80,000 from the Orange Grove Thoroughbreds draft at the 2011 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Peace Force, who like Boban is by Bernardini, is a valuable broodmare prospect being a half sister to former star galloper and five time Group One winner Eremein and fellow stakes winner Gliding.

Their dam, the stakes performed Marscay mare Marrego, has produced six winners including Danrego, the Melbourne winning and proven stakes producer of Nadeem Lass. Danrego (Lot 1122) and her daughter Morrego (Lot 797) are set to go under the hammer at this week's National Broodmare Sale - both members of Amarina Farm draft.

Danrego was covered last spring by Zoustar, while Morrego, the dam of Klammer, was covered by Redoute's Choice.

Meanwhile, Tukiyo who ran third in the Group Three is set to go under the hammer on Wednesday at the National Broodmare Sale - she is Lot 572.

Strawberry Boy, a graduate of the 2010 Gold Coast Yearling Sale, scored the biggest win of his career when he scored a dashing success in Saturday's Group Three Lord Mayor's Cup (1600m).

The gelded son of Redoute's Choice sent his earnings racing past $550,000 when he cruised home to win his second stakes race at his 23rd lifetime outing. He's the winner of eight races and been placed on another eight occasions - seven of them at group and stakes level.

The spritely six-year-old is one of nine winners and five stakes performed produced by the outstanding producer Strawberry Girl.

A daughter of globetrotter Strawberry Road, Strawberry Girl has also produced the Group Two winning sire Danroad and fellow stakes winners Newtown Jet and Tippitaka and the stakes performer Bullmore.

Strawberry Girl won five races prior to being retired to stud and earned black type with a runner up placing in the listed Siren Stakes at Detroit in the United States.

Into the Red returned to the track with a bang on Saturday when he scored a comprehensive win in the listed Ascot Handicap (1200m) at Doomben.

The Kelso Wood prepared son of Not a Single Doubt showed a great turn of foot when called upon by Ryan Wiggins and raced through on the inside of runners to beat a quality field of sprinters.

A winner of the Gold Edition Plate as a three-year-old, Into the Red was purchased by leading bloodstock agent John Foote for $100,000 from the Goodwood Farm draft at the 2012 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

He is from the unraced Clay Hero mare Red Sequin - a sister to stakes winner and Group One runner-up Czar Hero and two other stakes performers including the grandam of Hong Kong champion
Beauty Flash as well as the dam of New Zealand Group One winner Maroofity.

Into the Red, who races in the Devine colours made famous in recent times by Sizzling, has now earned $236,750 from his 19 starts.
