First Winner for El Nino

First Australian runner of STORM CAT son, EL NINO (USA), Ninette Kan broke her maiden to become her sires first Australian winner on May 30th.

El NinoThe two year old filly from Scoot Kan (by Kanoot) defeated her older opponents in the Emerald JC Coaches Maiden H, 1200m to win convincingly. The tough little filly has raced 8 times at 2 years, missing prizemoney cheques by narrow margins at times, and her never-give-up attitude finally rewarded her owner and breeder, Deidre Milne with a well-deserved win, and her first winner in twenty years!

EL NINO (USA) has had 4 Australian runners to date, and 39 runners for 26 winners World -wide, including 8 times STAKES winning mare, DE JORGE(9 Wins), multiple STAKES placed, SENOR RAIN (10 wins), TRACK RECORD holder, My Tee Time (7 Wins), etc.

EL NINO's first USA winner, Black type son, Senor Rain won on debut at Del Mar by three and a half lengths over 1200m to become his sire's first winner from just two starters in the USA in 2011.

Senor Rain has won 10 races to date, and, from 40 career starts, he has finished in the top three 26 times, with 10 wins (2 at 2 years), and 16 placings (4 times, 2 at 2 years, at STAKES level) He currently holds the 1400m Track Record in California, running 1:22.42, in super-fast sectionals.

EL NINO, Group 2 placed, led in all his races, winning three, and placing five times , running a blistering 21 sec. opening quarter mile time. He ran just 0.26 outside the fastest 1300m time for the year at Churchill Downs, winning by 3 lengths.

His dam, Boston Harbour is half sister to 2 year old Champion Colt, BOSTON HARBOR, ( 6 wins at 2 years, including the Gr1 Breeders Cup Juvenile.)Dam Sire, FORTY NINER - 11 wins -5 at 2, (US$2,726,000) is the Sire of 56 Stakes Winners of over US$149 Million.

EL NINO served 35 mares in his first Australian stud season, standing at Merlo Downs, Rockhampton, Queensland.

Stud proprietors, Jeff and Lea Marlow re-located "Merlo Downs" breeding operations to Minden in the Brisbane valley last year, where EL NINO now resides and will stand for $5,500 including GST.
