Power King survived a protest from runner-up Punta Arenas to land South Africa's biggest race, the Group I Durban July (2400m) at Greyville on Saturday.
It was the second consecutive year the race was decided in the stewards room.
Power King defeated Punta Arenas by three-quarters of a length however celebrations were made to wait as Ian Sturgeon on the runner-up protested alleging interference in the concluding stages.
The winner appeared to lose his footing behind and swerve into Punta Arenas however the stewards head on film showed it was Punta Arenas moving in on the winner that caused the incident.
"I was never in any doubt. Punta Arenas shifted on to me twice." Randolph, winning his first July, told the Sporting Post
This was the third July win for trainer Dean Kannemeyer.
"This is the ultimate race for a trainer in South Africa and I am over the moon. The horse was a little wobbly and exhausted afterwards so I will let him get over this before deciding on his future."
Tellina ran on for third, a further half length away, with Futura coming from almost last into the straight to finish fourth.
Legal Eagle, the 7-2 favourite, finished fifth and rider Anton Marcus said, "I was slightly impeded in the straight but I have no complaints."
Chad Schofield finished unplaced on Australian-bred The Conglomerate.
The first three home are all by the 2001 Arlington Million winner Silvano and were bred by Andreas Jacobs who stands Silvano at his Maine Chance Farm.
