Northern Farm's half-brother to Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes winner Lightning Pearl (Marju) and Japanese Group II winner Satono Crown (Marju) was knocked down to Hajime Satomi for 235m yen ($A2,560,000). (pictured).
Satomi owns Satono Crown and was keen to snare his half-brother.
"Satono Crown finished third in Derby this year. Deep Impact is better sire than Marju, isn't he?,"Satomi reasoned.
"Satono Crown has brilliant turn of foot, and Deep Impact had wonderful late kick. Therefore, I do hope this colt has brilliant finishing speed. And Noriyuki Hori, who trains Satono Crown, likes this colt as well. The price is more expansive than I thought, but this is the one which I could not miss."
Just one lot later, a grey colt by U.S. sire sensation Tapit out of the 2-time American Grade 1 winner Champagne d'Oro (Medaglia d'Oro) was purchased by Kaneko Makoto Holdings for 230m yen ($A2,505,000).
That price equalled the price paid by the same purchaser for a Deep Impact colt out of the Irish Group 1 winner Lush Lashes (Galileo).
Champion trainer Gai Waterhouse dipped her toe in the water when teaming up Satomi Oka Bloodstock to purchase a colt by Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Bago (FR) (Nashwan) for 10m yen ($A110,000).
The colt is out of the winning Desert King (Ire) mare Our Oasis who is a half-sister to the dam of Listed winner Sakajiro Royal, which is also by Bago.
Another highlight on day 1 was the Deep Impact colt out of Group I New Zealand One Thousand Guineas King's Rose (Redoute's Choice) that went to Hajime Satomi for 195m yen ($A2,100,000) (Read about it here).
Another Australian to make the buyers list was Phil Sly who signed for Northern Farm's Daiwa Major colt out of the Kingmambo mare Bochinche for 34m yen ($A370,000).
Bochinche is a daughter of the champion mare Hatoof (Irish River) a dual Group 1 winner in Europe and a Grade 1 winner in the US.
The gross of 7,104,500,000 yen is 17.9% higher than 2014 and the average price, 33,830,95 2 yen, is 20.7% higher than 2014. The gross and the average price are new records at the yearling session of JRHA Sale. The clearance rate, 88.2%, is also the highest in the history of yearling session.
Katsumi Yoshida of Northern Farm, the leading consignor, commented:
"This is amazing market. The most impressive is the clearance rate, and I am so happy to have so many buyers at this market. I thought the quality of the consignments from my farm was the best ever and I had high expectation. But this result is far better than my expectation".
