First foal for Fiorente

Tara Madgwick - Friday July 24
Eliza Park International has reported the first foal born for Melbourne Cup hero Fiorente (IRE).

Fiorente made history in 2013 when providing champion trainer Gai Waterhouse with her first victory in Australia's greatest race.

Fiorente filly from LibertasRacing legend and Australia's most popular first season sire in 2014, Fiorente now has his first foal on the ground, and it didn't take her long to get up and running.

"We've certainly been looking forward to seeing the first of his foals," Eliza Park International's nominations manager, Mark Lindsay said.

"He was sought out by breeders from throughout Australasia when we announced he'd stand at Eliza Park International last spring and he ended up covering an outstanding book of 186 mares - this is just the first of the charge.

"This filly looks like a real chip off the block and burns around the paddock every chance she gets. Who said the Fiorentes wouldn't run early?"

The filly is out of the Statue of Liberty mare, Libertas, and it won't be long before she has plenty of playmates.

An outstanding son of champion German sire Monsun, Fiorente has been super popular with breeders and stands this spring at a fee of $17,600.
