First Foal for Eurozone

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday July 28
The loss of ill-fated sire Northern Meteor has been highlighted again this season with Group I winners Cosmic Endeavour, Amanpour, Shooting to Win and record breaking Group II winner Deep Field, so it's not hard to see why there is tremendous interest in his young sire sons including Newgate Farm's Eurozone.

A gifted Group II winner, narrowly beaten in the Group I MRC CF Orr Stakes, Eurozone retired to Newgate Farm last spring covering 167 mares and his first foal on the ground has delighted Queensland breeder Richard Foster of Yarramalong Park in Queensland.

This lovely chestnut filly is the second foal of Mareeza, a slick Group III placed juvenile by the royally bred Marscay stallion Freeze from an international Black Type family.

"She is a great foal, a nice way to start the season," said Richard Foster.

"She has lots of quality, good bone and is well muscled. She has the same markings as her father Eurozone, a Group 1 racehorse.

"Her mother Mareeza was a talented racehorse also, winning at Sandown as a two-year-old before running within a nostril of winning the Group III Thoroughbred Club Stakes at Caulfield when beaten by Cavalry Rose."

Completely free of Danzig blood, Eurozone has a pedigree that has obvious appeal for breeders seeking a familiar, compatible outcross sire and he is priced affordably this year at $13,750.
