Well named three year-old gelding I'll Take the Jag kicked off his career with a stylish debut victory over 1250 metres, surging late for Blake Shinn to snatch an impressive neck win.
A $410,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Paul Messara/ Blue Sky Bloodstock from the Blandford Lodge draft, I'll Take the Jag is bred to be good being the first winner for Nobentleyforme, a half-sister by Fastnet Rock to triple Group I winner Bentley Biscuit.
"Only good horses do that and he's shown a lot of that at home," John Sargent said.
"Blake (Shinn) rode him like the best horse, he had to do a bit and probably led a bit too soon but he did the job."
Sargent said the rising four-year-old would work through the grades for now, but there is no doubt he has a big opinion of the horse.
"When he walked into the stables he reminded me of It's a Dundeel, although he has a bit more white on him," said Sargent.
"Let's hope he turns out as good."

Take the Jag was bred by Sir Owen Glenn's Go Bloodstock and his win will be
great news for his breeder and part-owner as his dam Nobentleyforme has a
yearling filly and weanling colt to follow by High Chaparral and she was
covered by Dundeel last spring.
The sire of eight Australian stakes-winners this season headed by Group I winners Contributer (IRE) and Fenway, High Chaparral died at the end of 2014 and his final crop of Australian foals will be born this spring.
He has a number of high profile sons at stud.
Coolmore based So You Think will have his first runners in the new season, Arrowfield Stud's Dundeel will have his first foals born this spring and his star imported son Toronado (IRE) will stand his first season at Swettenham Stud in Victoria.
