Stakes Goals for Star Witness Filly

Tara Madgwick - Saturday August 1
Talented Star Witness filly Kimberley Star made it three metropolitan wins on the trot when she powered away to win as she pleased at Rosehill on Saturday.

Kimberley StarStakes placed before Christmas when second to Odyssey Moon in the $250,000 Inglis Nursery, the Gai Waterhouse trained filly has been a stronger commodity this time around and her form has been impeccable.

She travelled smoothly for Blake Shinn in fourth position and accelerated away to win the 1400 metre event by three lengths.

"She's a serious filly about to take on the best of the best," Waterhouse declared.

"They backed a few to beat her but she just said 'see you later alligator'.

"I will get home and have a look at the options available but I think she's up to a 1400-metre Listed race or Group II."

A modest $40,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Middlebrook Valley Lodge draft for James Harron Bloodstock, Kimberley Star has three wins and three placings from seven starts with prizemoney topping $225,000.

Kimberley Star is the first foal of unraced Kiss the Sun, a half-sister by Anabaa (USA) to Group I winner Undoubtedly, Group II winner Regal Kiss and Group III winner Toorak Thunder.

Kimberley Star is one of 10 first crop winners (eight in Australia, two in South Africa) for Star Witness, who has left seven stakes performers.

He stands the coming season at Widden Stud at a fee of $22,000.
