Two
nicely bred Australian bred fillies opened their accounts in South Africa on
Sunday with Leila's Charger scoring at Turffontein and Lady Lago successful at
Greyville.
Bolting away for a five length debut win over 1160 metres for the Dominic Zaki
stable was three year-old Charge Forward filly Leila's Charger.
A modest $26,000 Inglis Classic Summer Book purchase for Heritage Bloodstock
from the Arrowfield draft, Leila's Charger is the second winner and last foal
for Lilanda (IRE) (she died in 2014), a half-sister by Grand Lodge to Champion
German Sprinter and dual Group I winner Linngari.
Mike de Kock and Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa combined to win with well-bred three
year-old Encosta de Lago filly Lady Lago, who scored over a mile by a neck at
her third start.
Lady Lago was a $55,000 Inglis Premier purchase for Form Bloodstock from the
draft of Three Bridges Thoroughbreds and is a full sister to Group III winner
Decircles and sibling to stakes-placed King Raedwald, Raffles Knight and
Hybrid.
Lady Lago will be a valuable broodmare prospect for Sheikh bin Khalifa's
breeding operation as she comes from the family of Group I champions Elvstroem,
Haradasun, Starspangledbanner and current Group winning Galileo three year-old
Highland Reel.
