Two
of Darley's best known US shuttlers to Australia in Bernardini (USA) and Medaglia
D'Oro (USA) combined forces to produce TDN Rising Star Rachel's Valentina, the
first winner for US Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra.
Prepared by Todd Pletcher, the two year-old filly is a homebred for Stonestreet
Thoroughbreds and kicked off her career with a highly anticipated two length
victory at Saratoga over six furlongs.
The win came exactly six years after her dam Rachel Alexandra beat the colts to
win the Group I Haskell Invitational, which was one of 13 victories for the
champion filly, who made her then young sire Medaglia D'Oro into an immediate
sire success.
Rachel's Valentina is the second foal for Rachel Alexandra, whose first foal is
unraced three year-old Curlin colt Jess's Dream.
After producing Rachel's Valentina to a mating with Bernardini, Rachel Alexandra very nearly died and has
not been covered since.
