With
the first yearlings by Widden Stud's Group I winning Fastnet Rock son Your Song
set to make an impression at yearling sales in 2016, the team at Widden have
been greatly encouraged by the wave of success enjoyed by champion sire Fastnet
Rock over the past 12 months and his burgeoning list of successful sire sons.
Just crowned Champion Australian Sire for 2014/2015, Fastnet Rock claimed the
title for the second time and also had the distinction of having two sire sons top
the First Season Sires premiership by way of earnings and individual winners.
We won't have long to wait for the next sire sons of Fastnet Rock to make their
presence felt with his Group I winner Foxwedge and Group II winner Smart
Missile poised for action with their first two year-olds being readied to race
in the spring.
Make no mistake, sons of Fastnet Rock are on the rise and attractive Your Song
is the next in line to achieve commercial success.
Arguably the fastest and best looking son of Fastnet Rock at stud, Your Song
was considered by many who saw him as close to perfection as one could wish in
a thoroughbred.
At Gooree Stud, they maintain he is one of the best looking foals ever born on
their famous Mudgee nursery, whilst his appearance in the mounting yard prior
to his Group One triumph prompted respected commentator Alan Thomas to declare
that "he would have to be the best
looking horse in the country, a magnificent animal ".
Another outstanding Gooree Stud bred Group I winning like Northern Meteor, Your
Song was a blistering speedster, who claimed his elite victory as a three
year-old in a dazzling 5 length dominance of the older, successful sprinters in
the Group I BTC Cup over 1200 metres at weight-for-age.
It was a jaw-dropping performance and was recorded as the biggest winning
margin in any Group One WFA race of the 2012-13 season.
With a superb pedigree steeped in international Group I winners, the race
performance and type boxes all ticked, Your Song fits the profile for success
and has some terrific youngsters headed to the sales next year and already
we've had a sneak peak.
A beautiful filly from Swing Dance fetching $150,000 to Dermot Farrington and
colts from South Terrace and Shannon Wood selling for $90,000 and $80,000 at
the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale earlier this year.
If there is value to be had in the stallion market place this season than Your
Song truly stands out.
Your Song stands his third season at a fee of $22,000 and looms as a great punt
for breeders still looking to book in to a Group I winning son of Fastnet Rock.
