Exciting Northern Meteor Colt Breaks the Ice

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday August 26
Opening his account with a stylish victory at Warwick Farm on Wednesday was talented Northern Meteor colt Metallic Crown, a $190,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Ingham Racing from the draft of Luskin Park.

Metallic Crown as a yearlingThe Chris Waller trained colt was second at his first two starts, the last time beaten as favourite, but he put the best foot forward in this 1300 metre maiden to power away and win by three lengths.

He led all the way and was never in danger of defeat.

Sporting the cerise colors of the Ingham family that have been prominent of late aboard exciting stakes-winner Japonisme, Metallic Crown has been considered one of the better three-year-olds in the Waller stable, so connections would be relieved to see him come out and do it.

"He's a nice docile colt that hasn't quite worked it out and hopefully that will help the penny drop," Waller said.

"I'm not sure what happened last start, he was disappointing to say the least.

"I was embarrassed to say I thought he would be one of my better three-year-olds, but I can say it with a little bit of respect today."

Bred by Luskin Park and partners, Metallic Crown is the third winner for Pegasus Queen, a metropolitan winning daughter of Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus (USA) from the family of Champion Three Year Old McGinty.
