The Coolmore Stud colours have been successfully
carried to victory all around the racing world and the famous blue jacket has
now come to New Zealand.
The global breeding and racing giant will be represented at Ruakaka on Saturday
when the elegantly-bred filly Love Triangle debuts for the world's largest
thoroughbred operation.
"It's the first time they have raced a horse outright in New Zealand," Te Akau
principal David Ellis said.
"John Magnier asked me about 18 months ago to buy them a filly at Karaka and I
chose Love Triangle."
The daughter of Encosta de Lago and Love Diamonds, a member of the famed Eight
Carat family, was purchased for $400,000 out of Cambridge Stud's 2014 Premier
Sale draft.
"She's got a beautiful pedigree and she's a gorgeous, well-balanced filly -
she's very exciting," Ellis said.
Trained by Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards, Love Triangle will make her
first appearance in the NZ Bloodstock Airfreight 1200 in the hands of stable
jockey Matt Cameron.
"She trialled in the spring as a two-year-old and won really nicely, but we
wanted to give her a lot of time and set her for the three-year-old classic
races," Ellis said.
"She has showed a lot of potential in her track work and we are looking forward
to her doing it on race day."
Love Triangle also won at the Te Teko trials earlier this month to round off
her preparation.
The Te Akau team at Ruakaka will also include the impeccably-bred colt Scrutinize,
a son of Savabeel and the dual Group One winner Legs, who won his only start as
a juvenile last season.
"Safely through Saturday he will go to the Hawke's Bay Guineas and then the
Canterbury Stakes before the 2000 Guineas," Ellis said. – NZ Racing Desk.
