There
have been a string of well bred, much hyped three year-olds sent out at short
odds in provincial maidens in recent weeks and while some have won, others have
crashed and burned, but for Redoute's Choice filly Reemah it was a good
outcome.
Prepared by David Hayes and Tom Dabernig, Reemah was a fast finishing second in
the Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes to Pride of Dubai.
Unplaced in the Golden Slipper after drawing off the track, Reemah went
straight to the spelling paddock and was having her first run back in the 1200
metre maiden at Geelong on Friday.
She jumped fast for Michael Walker and was sent straight to the front, idling
along in the lead before being shaken up on the turn to race clear and score by
a couple of lengths.
"Leading is not her go, but we wanted to keep her out of trouble," said David
Hayes.
"I always thought she'd be a miler, not that you'd think that looking at her
today, but ridden differently next start you'll see a better filly."
Reemah will look to Black Type races on her way to the Group I MRC Thousand
Guineas and may well take on the colts in the VRC Danehill Stakes at Flemington
on September 12.
A $600,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Shadwell Australia from the Kitchwin
Hills draft, Reemah is the second winner for Group II winning and multiple
Group I placed Testa Rossa mare Vormista.
Kitchwin Hills sold a Fastnet Rock colt from Vormista for $650,000 at Inglis Easter
this year to China Horse Club/ Blandford Bloodstock and the mare has an All Too
Hard filly to follow.
She is due to foal this spring to I Am Invincible.
