By champion sire More Than Ready (USA) from Group II winning Zabeel mare Zarzuela, Serious Satire has her Cambridge trainer Stephen
Marsh guessing as to what heights she might scale in the future.
"I don't know how good she is, she's certainly very progressive and she will
get better over more ground – she could be the real deal," he said.
Serious Satire drew further attention to her three-year-old prospects when she
impressively downed a competitive line-up at
Hastings on Saturday.
And in the following event, her Sydney-bound stablemate Sofia Rosa completed a
double for Marsh and rider Danielle Johnson with a sizzling victory against the
older horses in the Hastings – Heart of Hawke's Bay 1200.
"I thought I had a good team of three-year-old fillies for this season and they
do look pretty smart," he said.
Sofia Rosa is likely to cross the Tasman next month for the Gr.2 Tea Rose
Stakes at Randwick on September 19 while Serious Satire will remain closer to
home.
The Gr.2 Hawke's Bay Breeders' Trail Stakes on the second day at Hastings and
the Gr.1 NZ 1000 Guineas in November are her main domestic targets.
Runner-up in her Avondale debut in June, Serious Satire thundered home from the
back of the field to nail last season's Gr.1 Diamond Stakes runner-up Battle
Time in the three-year-old sprint.
"I didn't know whether she could win from the wide draw, it was a very good
field and she's still a bit soft in condition," Marsh said.
"I didn't want to change her racing pattern so I said to Danielle to let her
find her feet and she's really got home."
Johnson said Serious Satire, a daughter of More Than Ready and the Group Two
winner Zarzuela raced by her breeder David Paykel, had turned in an exceptional
performance.
"We thought it was going to be a bit difficult from the draw, but I got a nice
track into the race and she was explosive when I asked her the question." – NZ
