His latest triumph came in Saturday's Group 1 New Zealand Bloodstock Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.
With regular rider Glyn Scofield in the saddle, Boban received a cosy run on the rail midfield.
As the backmarkers began to make their runs, Scofield found he had nowhere to go but it proved a blessing as the son of Bernardini (USA), spent little energy sneaking into a striking position coming into the straight although Entirely Platinum had hit the front and looked full of running and Stratum Star was charging down the centre of the track.
But you don't win five wins at the highest level without a fierce will to win and Boban pinned his ears back in the final 150 metres to snatch victory from Entirely Platinum by a short-head with Stratum Star a nose back in third.(photo Grant Courtney)
Schofield has been on Boban in all five of his Group 1 wins and all bar one of his eight stakes wins.
"He gave me a super ride today. He was a lot further forward than what I probably anticipated but he found himself there without any effort," Schofield said.
"The last bit he lifted. He saw where the winning post was and he wanted to get there. It was a fantastic effort.
"He's a fantastic horse. When he quickens up, there are not many that can quicken with him. He wasn't at his best on the shifty ground but it just shows what a top horse he is."
The Chris Waller-trained gelding advances his record to 11 wins and 3 seconds from 33 starts for earnings of $2,790,663.
He adds the Memsie Stakes to his Group victories in the Epsom Handicap, Emirates Stakes and Chipping Norton Stakes, all run over 1600 metres, and the Doomben 10000 over 1350 metres.
Waller's stable representative Justine Hales said it was a hit and run mission and Boban will be heading back to Sydney.
"He's heading back up to Rosehill tomorrow night," she said.
There's really not that much around in his distance range here at the moment
"It is best to space his runs out so he will go back up there.
"He's got a big heart and a will to win, he's very tough and he tries and gives his all all the time."
A $100,000 purchase from the Millbrook consignment at the 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling sale, Boban is the tenth foal and only stakes-winner out of the 1886 AJC Australian Oaks heroine Kenbelle.
The daughter of Kenmare has a 2yo colt by Epsom Derby winner Authorized and yearling brother to Boban. She missed to Bernardini in 2013 and was covered by the son of AP Indy again last year. When she did not go if foal, Kenbelle was covered by Spirit Of Boom but slipped.
