When
champion Australian racehorse and sire Lonhro shuttled to Kentucky for Darley,
he was patronized by some of the best breeders in North America including
George Strawbridge, whose two year-old homebred filly Ponytail became his
latest Northern Hemisphere winner.
Second on debut at Delaware earlier this month, the Michael Matz trained filly was
sent to Parx Racing for a lucrative juvenile maiden worth nearly $100,000 and
raced away to win as she pleased.
Ponytail took charge soon after the start and powered away to win the five and
a half furlong dash by more than five lengths eased down.
She is the ninth Northern Hemisphere bred two year-old winner for Lonhro, who
is acquitting himself with distinction.
His nine two year-old winners puts him one ahead of champion US sires Tapit and
War Front, who have eight apiece, the division being led at present by Scat
Daddy on 16 winners.
Ponytail is the first winner for Saratoga stakes-winner Sugar Again, who is by
the Danzig sire Syncline from Chilean Champion Mare Wolanstonita.
Lonhro stands this spring at Darley at a fee of $88,000 and had a Group race
double on Saturday courtesy of Exosphere and Bounding.
