Fell Swoop Continues Winning Run

Mark Smith - Saturday September 19
The winner of a Canberra maiden just eight months ago, Fell Swoop continued his climb to the top of the sprinting ranks when climbing off the canvas to win Saturday's Listed Testa Rossa Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield.

The son of Not A Single Doubt earned his first stakes win a fortnight back in the Cup Club Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Nothing much went right for the Matthew Dale-trained colt.

He was on edge after needing to be replated at the barriers. After looking to be over-racing for Damien Oliver, Fell Swoop came under attack by the Group 1I winner Charlie Boy who seemed to bring out Fell Swoop's fighting qualities in the final 100 metres, much to the delight of his trainer. "Once he didn't get cover and switch off, he was there to be beaten today," Dale said.

"That was a massive run.

"He was clearly in trouble and he'd done all of the work exposed and pulling but to come back off the canvas like that and win, it was a sign of a really good one.

"It just shows a real will to win that you don't find in too many horses."

"He was just a bit more on edge when they pulled him out and replated him.

"I became a bit concerned because you don't like to see that happen, especially that is still very lightly raced and it is all still very new to him."

The son of Not A Single Doubt advances his record to an impressive 8 wins and 1 second from 10 starts for earnings of $348,170.

A half-brother to the 9-time winner Flight Command (General Nediym), Fell Swoop was purchased out of the Dartbrook Downs Thoroughbreds draft by his trainer for $45,000 at the 2013 Inglis Classic Yearling sale.

He is the fourth foal of the winning Fasliyev mare Touched In Flight a daughter of the Group II AJC Silver Shadow Stakes winner Crimson Flight (Akaaber).

Touched In Flight has a 2yo filly by Nicconi and was covered by Star Witness last spring.
