Octagonal mare Diamond Cove has been covered by nearly every sire on the Vinery
Stud roster and it was champion sire More Than Ready (USA) who delivered her
with a winner at Warwick Farm on Wednesday in Montauk.
The Chris Waller trained colt had form around the likes of Sebring Sun,
Metallic Crown and Raphael's Cat in three previous runs, so was overdue for a win of his own.
He did best in a tight finish to outpoint the James Cummings trained Gooree
Stud first starter Most Exalted (3c Street Cry (IRE) x Queen of the Hill), who
will be well worth following out of the race.
A $190,000 Inglis Easter purchase for his trainer from the Vinery Stud draft,
Montauk is the fourth winner from four foals to race from Diamond Cove, whose
previous winners are by Red Ranscom (USA), Testa Rossa and Onemorenomore.
In the pipeline for the Greg Perry owned Diamond Cove are fillies by Pluck
(USA) (two year-old) and Big Brown (USA) (yearling) and she is due to foal to
Congrats (USA), so she's certainly been loyal to the Vinery boys!
