55th Stakes Winner for Testa Rossa

Mark Smith - Saturday September 26
After breaking her maiden at her fourth start, the Peter Moody-trained Amelie's Star has been unstoppable since.

The 4yo daughter of Testa Rossa has been a 4-win streak culminating with another dominant performance in Saturday's $125,000 Group III Dilmah Tea Colin Stephen Quality (2400m) at Rosehill Gardens.

A maiden win over 1800 metres at Hawkesbury was followed by a pair of wins in benchmark 75's at Warwick Farm.

Given a confident ride by Josh Parr, Amelie's Star was midfield early before cutting loose on the point of turn to run out a resounding 3 ¼-length winner over Bohemian Lily with Reigning running on well for third. (photos Lisa Grimm).

Stable foreman Clare Cunningham said she was unsure of the mares immediate future.

"Maybe she can match-up for the spring in Victoria," Cunningham said.

"It's amazing where she's come from this campaign. She didn't know what she was doing early, she was all legs.

"In the space of four races she's here winning a Group race. And she showed that turn of foot from off pace today too."

On the morning of the death of the incomparable Zabeel, his daughter Zazita credited the Cambridge Stud stalwart with his 143rd stakes winner as a broodmare sire.

Amelie's Star is the latest stakes-winner descending from Sovereign Edition' sister Royal News.

This prolific family includes sprinters like Blue Diamond Stakes hero and promising young sire Reward For Effort, Golden Slipper winner Overreach, and Magic Millions 2yo Classic winner Catnipped. But there also has been a smattering of stayers including AJC Derby winner Ivory's Irish and VRC St Leger winner Full At Last.

Unfortunately Zazita has had a troubled history in the past few years.

She missed to Smart Missile in 2012 then did not hold to Smart Missile and Pluck (USA) in 2013 and sloipped to Husson (ARG) in 2014.

Amelie's Star becomes the 55th for Vinery Stud's evergreen stallion Testa Rossa who is working his way through his 15thbook of mares at a fee of $19,800.00.
