Foxwedge youngsters set to take centre stage

Chain Shot was a $95,000 purchase from the Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale in January and Sportsbet have marked him a $26 chance in the Antler Luggage Kirkham Plate 2YO (1000m).

Hugh Bowman was aboard for two barrier trials, including winning the first Sydney two-year-old trial of the season at Rosehill on September 1 but with Bowman at Caulfield on Saturday, Tye Angland has been called upon.

"Hugh was kind on him at his first trial," McEvoy's racing manager Rick Connolly said. "It was only a small field but Hugh held him together and could have won by a bigger margin if he wanted to.

"He went back and raced wide at his second trial. Hugh got what he wanted out of him and told Tony that he was ready to go to the races.

"Tye came and worked him for us during the week and was very happy with him."

Foxwedge has only had two youngsters go the races, Vulpini and She's A Foxy Lady. They contested a 1050-metre race at Doomben last Saturday, finishing second and sixth resepctively.

"We have a few Foxwedges in the stable," Connolly said. "They are proper athletes. We like them.

"Two-year-olds tell you if they are ready and with Chain Shot, he just keeps putting his hand up."

There are also two Foxwedge youngsters debuting at Caulfield on Saturday in the $100,000 Inglis Debutant Stakes (1000m).

Terindah ($13) is a colt which has drawn barrier 12 for Cranbourne–based Robbie Griffiths while up-and-coming trainer Brent Stanley has Literate ($21) engaged, a filly which ran second in a recent barrier trial.
