2016 Golden Slipper first acceptances

First acceptances for the 2016 Group I Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill are up 17 percent on last year's count.

A total of 1461 two-year-olds are in contention to run in the world's richest juvenile race, including 767 colts and geldings, and 694 fillies.

Snitzel leads the way on the stallion rankings, represented by 83 entries, six more than champion sire Fastnet Rock.

Of the first-season sires, Smart Missile has 59 youngsters still in contention, Foxwedge 49, Sepoy 42 and Helmet 20.

John O'Shea's mammoth Godolphin team has 156 two-year-olds entered, 44 more than six-time Golden Slipper-winning trainer Gai Waterhouse.

Peter and Paul Snowden have significantly boosted their stock in past two seasons and have 76 two-year-olds paid up for.

Chris Waller, Hawkes Racing, David Hayes and Mick Price all have between 72 and 50 juveniles in the running for Golden Slipper glory.

The second round of acceptances will be declared on January 25 next year.
