More Sire Prospects

Media Release - Friday October 9

The Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas is renowned as a stallion-making race and several studs have stallion prospects in the race.

More Than ReadyHowever, only two stallions have multiple entries in Australia's premier mile for three year-olds – Vinery's More Than Ready (Ready For Victory and More Than Most) and his Group 1 winning son Sebring (Lizard Island and Tulsa) who stands at Widden.

More Than Ready's main contender, Ready For Victory is from a half-sister to Group I AJC Champagne Stakes winner Meurice and was purchased as a potential sire prospect by Eliza Park International.

The Victorian stud got a bargain with a $240,000 bid as a yearling and he will be worth up to many times that price-tag if successful on Saturday.

The Mick Price trained colt won a Flemington Stakes race on debut and went straight to Sydney for the Group I ATC Golden Slipper where he was only beaten a length or two despite veering right off the track in the straight.

"He's a genuine colt," Price said. "Eliza Park International bought him with a view to running in the better races. He's drawn a good gate and we've added blinkers. He's worked fantastic with them this week and is cherry ripe."

Jockey Glen Boss replaces the suspended Damien Oliver and he believes the shades have definitely made an improvement. "He is an outstanding colt. I rode him a couple of times early on and the blinkers have certainly switched him on."

Ready For Victory is priced at $7.50 to make it a home-town result at Caulfield behind Sydney visitor Press Statement who is a short-priced $2.25 favourite.

Vinery Stud bought the standing rights to Press Statement last season and he returned for a brilliant last-start victory in the G2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill.

The Caulfield Guineas (1600m) has helped launch the stud careers of champion sires Redoute's Choice, Show A Heart, Lonhro, Starspangledbanner and All Too Hard defeated Pierro in 2012 to perhaps join that elite group.

Both of those stallions will be well represented by first season yearlings at Magic Millions next January.
