Bowness Stud principal John North had good reason to celebrate the brilliant Group II MRC Schillaci Stakes victory of Alpha Miss at Caulfield last weekend.
While
he's not in the ownership and didn't have a bet on the gifted daughter of Lucky
Owners (NZ), North does have a vested interest in the 4-year-old's ongoing
success.
In
what now appears to have been an inspired piece of business, North purchased
Soiree Girl, the dam of Alpha Miss, at the Magic Millions 2013 National
Broodmare Sale.
Alpha
Miss hadn't been named at the time the catalogue was produced but was already a
half-sister to three individual winners. Now the Robert Smerdon-trained mare is
one of five winners produced by Soiree Girl and a triple stakes winner to boot!
The
impressive race record of Alpha Miss reads four wins, two placings and over
$500,000 in prizemoney from 10 career starts. In addition to the Group 2
Schillaci Stakes featuring on the immediate catalogue page, wins in the ATC
Gimcrack Stakes (LR) and ATC Lonhro Plate (LR), not to mention placings in the
ATC Furious Stakes (G2) and ATC Reisling Stakes (LR), make her's a formidable
pedigree.
Even before Saturday's family success in the Schillaci Stakes, North had committed Soiree Girl to matings with two of Australia's most commercial stallions for 2014 and 2015.
Last month saw her safely deliver a colt by world-beater So You Think (NZ) and she will soon be on her way back to Coolmore to be covered by Golden Slipper winner Pierro.
