Gai
Waterhouse/James Harron Bloodstock bought 11 horses from the 2014 Inglis
Australian Easter Yearling Sale and the cheapest of them was High Chaparral
(IRE) colt Stampede who opened his account with a dominant win at Warwick Farm on
Wednesday.
An $80,000 purchase from the Coolmore draft, Stampede was narrowly beaten on
debut at Canterbury last month, but made amends with a powerful all the way
victory in the 1400 metre maiden.
Sent to the front by Tim Clark, he rolled along in the lead and then kicked
away down the running to win by more than two lengths as a short priced favourite.
"He's a top class horse in the making," said Gai Waterhouse.
"That was a working gallop. He has so much upside and is such an exciting
horse.
"We'll just let him go through his classes for now and then map out his future."
Foaled and raised at Coolmore, Stampede is the first foal of Nothin' Leica Cat, a New Zealand bred daughter of
Tale of the Cat (USA), who was second in a Group I Queensland Oaks and fourth
in the Group I ATC Australian Oaks.
Nothin Leica Cat has a yearling colt by So You Think and a colt foal by High
Chaparral (IRE).
