Blueblood Wins Stakes

Tara Madgwick - Saturday November 28
Cambridge  Stud already have a Derby hero on the board this season and may  have another in the pipeline.

Victoria Derby winner Tarzino's sire Tavistock is having a great season and it continued at Otaki in New Zealand on Friday where his promising three year-old Tavago took out the Group III Wellington Stakes over 1600 metres.

Trained by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, Tavago scored a fast finishing narrow win over Per Incanto (USA) gelding Shadows Cast at just his third start.

Tavago as a yearling"We've got the Derby in the back of our minds, he's a real staying type." Young said.

"He's a really nice horse in the making, very exciting.

"He had to do a lot of work early and he grew another leg that last bit."

A modest $60,000 NZB Premier purchase from the Cambridge Stud draft, Tavago is the latest stakes-winner in a very famous old family being from Sara Ann, a full sister to Group II winner La Sizeranne, whose dam is My Tricia.

The My Tricia family has been gold for Cambridge Stud producing Group I stars such as Grosvenor, National Gallery, Mahaya and Miss Keepsake as well as champions Lonhro and Lankan Rupee.

Cambridge Stud will offer a half-brother by Ocean Park to Tavago at the 2016 NZB Premier Yearling Sale as Lot 55.

Tavago is the sixth stakes-winner for Tavistock, who is a young sire very much on the up.
