Second Group 1 for Thorn Park's Suavito

Mark Smith - Saturday February 13

A little under 12 months ago the Nigel Blackiston-trained mare Suavito captured the Group 1 Futurity Stakes from a field that included Horse Of The Year Dissident and she proved with Saturday's win in the $500,000 Group 1 Ladbrokes C.F. Orr Stakes (1400m) despite lengthy layoff she retains her zest for racing.

The daughter of Thorn Park hadn't raced since finishing seventh in the Group 1Doncaster Mile at Randwick last April.

She then underwent surgery to remove bone chips.

Back to the same course and distance of her career highlight last year, Suavito was given a sweet ride by Luke Currie as Emirates Stakes winner Turn Me Loose cut out the early speed.

It advances the overall record of Suavito to 8 wins, 4 seconds and 3 thirds from 19 starts for earnings of $1,254,550.

"When we drew barrier one I was really confident she'd get a nice run early," Blackiston said.

"She's so tough and strong this mare.

"She's in for a good campaign hopefully.

"I haven't really wound her up because hopefully we've got a long campaign ahead heading to towards Sydney. She's had ten months off so we will take her along quietly and slowly build her up.

"I can see in her development she's just got so much stronger."

"She'll come back here and run in the Futurity Stakes and then go up to 2000 metres for the Australian Cup, or go to Sydney for the Coolmore possibly for the Coolmore or other races are around."

Bred by IDL Racing, Suavito is the first foal of the unraced High Chaparral (IRE) mare Queen Cha Cha a half-sister to the multiple Group II placed Pinot Grigio (O'Reilly).

Queen Cha Cha's dam Chablis (Kingmambo) is a half-sister to Woman in White, the dam of Specter (Nadeem) winner of the Listed VRC Henry Bucks Stakes.

Queen Cha Cha has a yearling filly by Mastercraftsman (IRE) and a colt foal by Ocean Park. She was bred back to Charm Spirit (Ire) last spring.
