Lightly raced five-year-old mare Tuscan Sling overcame a three-wide trip to round out a great day for champion trainer Darren Weir and jockey Brad Rawiller with a hard-fought win in Saturday's Group III Mypunter.Com Bellmaine Stakes (1200m).
From the final Australian crop of Danehill Dancer (Ire), Tuscan Sling boasts a similar consistent profile to Weir's previous winner Burning Front.
The 5yo mare had missed a place just once in 11 career starts.
Coming off a maiden stakes success in the Listed Christmas Stakes at Caulfield back on Boxing Day, Tuscan Sling received few favours in the run before fighting on tenaciously to defeat the favoured Azkadellia (Shinko King) by a half-length with Choose (Starcraft) back in third. "She did it tough today," Rawiller said.
"Admittedly the speed was not as strong as it might have been but she was still caught three deep without cover and she was on the steel but when we straightened she is a little tiger when you let her go and she kept her fight up."
