Promising
New Approach (IRE) three year-old Royal Rumble landed his first Black Type
success at Morphettville on Monday when beating older horses to win the Listed SAJC
Schweppes CS Hayes Memorial Cup providing a great pedigree update for his
yearling half-brother that will sell at Magic Millions Adelaide on Tuesday.
Trained by Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas, Royal Rumble scored a tenacious half
head win in the 1600 metre feature taking his overall record to four wins and four
placings from 11 starts with earnings just shy of $200,000.
Macdonald said he was unsure whether Royal Rumble would stretch to the
2500m of the Group I SAJC South Australian Derby, but the stable would give him
a chance over 1800m in the Listed SAJC Port Adelaide Guineas in the coming
weeks.
Bred by Harry Perks and retained to race with partners, Royal Rumble was raised
at Mill Park and is one of three winners from three to race from Queen's Kiss,
a grand-daughter of stakes-winner Loving Cup.
A yearling colt by dual Derby winner Rebel Raider from Queen's Kiss will be
offered as Lot
260 at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.
Royal Rumble is the 25th stakes-winner worldwide for Epsom
Derby winner New Approach, who shuttled to Darley Victoria for four seasons.
