Arrowfield Stud sired runners were major players in many of the stakes races run on Saturday so it seemed fitting that the Arrowfield colours were carried to success by arguably the most impressive winner on the day.
The Gerald Ryan-trained Spill The Beans looked something well above average when winning the Group III Eskimo Prince Stakes at Randwick back in February and was back on his pedestal with a dominant performance in Saturday's $200,000 Group III Blacktown Workers Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m).
After being caught wide early, Tim Clark took up the running on the son of Snitzel who gave plenty when asked to come away to defeat the David Pfieffer-trained Denmagic (Denman) by two and a quarter lengths with a neck back to Peter and Paul Snowden's Serene Majesty (Fastnet Rock) in third. Ryan confirmed the $400,000 Inglis Guineas (1400m) at Scone was the immediate target for Spill The Beans.
"He was the best horse in the race. Class factor," Ryan said.
"The bit of sting out of the ground suited him too.
"Now that he's run well here today he'll go to Scone where he meets them all at level weights.
"I don't know what we'll do with him after Scone. If he went to Brisbane the only races for him are the Stradbroke and the (Queensland) Guineas."
Passed in short of his modest $60,000 at the 2014 Inglis Classic Yearling sale, due to what Ryan described as "x-ray issues", Spill The Beans advances his overall record to 4 wins, 1 second and 1 third from 9 starts for earnings of $365,750.
He is the second foal of the winning Falbrav mare Miss Dodwell, a half-sister to Group III winner Yammer (Bellotto) and Listed winner Blab (Flying Spur), the dam of Group 1 ATC Flight Stakes winner Speak Fondly (Northern Meteor) and Group II winners Wild and Proud (Snowland).
Miss Dodwell's dam Don't Stop Talking (Ahonoora) is a half-sister to Australian Horse of The Year Bounding Away (Biscay).
Miss Dodwell has an unraced 2yo filly by Not A Single Doubt named Kenedna, a yearling filly by Smart Missile, That made $110,000 at the Premier Yearling sale, and a filly foal by the same stallion. She was bred back to Snitzel last spring.
