Sitting at the top of the tree in
terms of the stallions retired to stud in New Zealand in 2011, he took out two-year-old
and First Season Sire honours last season and is on track to continue his
dominance of his counterparts in taking out the Second Season Sire's title.
Retired to stud as the winner of the Group Two Gimcrack Stakes, Showcasing boasts a pedigree unique to only a few stallions worldwide with his first five dams all stakes winners and, stakes winning producers. The strength of these genes looks to be running strong in Showcasing's veins with Saturday's Australian Group Three winner Cylinder Beach (NZ), a prime example.
Having run third in the Group Two BRC Sires' Produce Stakes last season at just his third start, many would argue Cylinder Beach was unlucky not to have at least finished third in his next assignment, the Group One JJ Atkins Stakes (he flew home for fourth) and since then, trainer Desleigh Forster has always had her sights set on a Derby tilt. Things didn't pan out for the ATC version but Saturday's win in the Gunsynd Classic (1630m) on seasonal debut is proof that Cylinder Beach is well on track for Queensland's equivalent.
The sire of eleven stakes performers in the Southern Hemisphere so far – more than any of his 2011 peers - Showcasing has proved in both hemispheres that his progeny can train on at three. A current winners to runners ratio of 55% (30/55) for his first Southern Hemisphere crop is testament to that fact. But, a pattern we are tending to see is Showcasing's ability to upgrade his mares.
"Showcasing stood his first four seasons at a fee of $7,500 + GST and has only ever had two yearlings in the Premier Sale," says Haunui Farm's Managing Director, Mark Chitty. "Given what he has achieved to date from the serving barn, I think we can safely say he is showing an ability to upgrade his mares and a number of his stakes performers definitely back this up," he said.
"Hardline won the Karaka Million and he was the seventh foal out of his dam. Showboy won the Wakefield and he was the eighth foal and Cylinder Beach is also the sole stakes performer out of his dam and he was also a seventh foal whilst Raghu was the sixth foal out of a mare who's been to the likes of Fastnet Rock in the past," said Mark.
Currently New Zealand's Leading Second Season Sire, Showcasing is standing at Haunui Farm in 2016 for a fee of $15,000 + GST with his book strictly limited to 125 mares. To secure a nomination for this coming season, please be in touch with Mark – 021 663 995, or Shannon – 0212 855 513.
