Seismic Shift

Tara Madgwick - Monday May 23
There was a seismic shift on the Australian First Season Sires List over the weekend.

This sector has been one of the most interesting in bloodstock this year, not so much for their achievements, but rather the puzzling lack of success for a group of stallions widely thought to be among the best as a grouping to ever go to stud in this country.

SepoySome have done enough to keep the dream alive while others have been what can only be described as disappointing, a fact that was demonstrated when service fees were released and Darley elected to halve the fees for their Group I stars Sepoy and Helmet.

It was those two stallions that were making news at the weekend with Helmet siring his first stakes-winner when Archives scored in Listed company in Brisbane and Sepoy tasting success at Rosehill with Chipanda.

We have a little over two months of the season to run and a lot can happen in that time, so if you have faith in either of those stallions this might be a very good year to go to them.

A fee reduction is an indication of how a stallion is going right now, it is not necessarily any guide to how that stallion will be going in three years time and when you are breeding for the commercial market, that's really the end game that interests you.
