The stars of the show were Dundeel, Zoustar and The Factor, all of whom produced a $200,000 plus weanling, with Zoustar producing two.
Arrowfield Stud's Dundeel sat atop the list by the sale end with his six offerings averaging $143,333, 5.2 times his $27,500 service fee with a top price of $240,000 for a colt out of Cerberus Girl purchased by Musk Creek Farm.
Zoustar averaged $118,938 for his eight lots with two selling for $250,000, a colt from Sun Mai purchased by James Bester Bloodstock and a colt from Armanjena knocked down to Amarina Farm.
Newgate Farm's The Factor was also a highlight averaging $75,273 for 11 lots with a top price of $220,000 for a colt out of Manhattan Angel knocked down to James Bester Bloodstock.
The Factor has been well received in the northern hemisphere sale rings also so his reduced 2016 fee of $16,500 offers plenty of potential upside if his progeny that are obviously appealing to buyers can produce the goods on the racetrack.
Generally it would be considered a pass mark for the bulk of the freshman stallions, and to be fair it would have been disappointing to see it any other way in a year where commercial quality horses have been in hot demand across all sectors.
