A
colt with close ties to former Australian Horse of the Year Lankan Rupee made
the perfect start to his career at Otaki in New Zealand on Friday and in an
interesting twist his dam is due to foal in Australia this spring to Japanese
sire sensation Deep Impact.
The Lisa Latta-trained Manhattan Street was successful on debut and in the
process he credited Kelly McCullough (nee Myers) with her first victory since
her comeback from injury.
"Lisa has taken her time with him as he's a big colt and he will make a lovely
three-year-old," stable representative Miranda Duthie said.
By Manhattan Rain, Manhattan Street was bred by Teeley Assets and is out of the Redoute's Choice mare
Charming Estelle who is a sister to the multiple Group I winning sprinter
Lankan Rupee from the family of champion racehorse and sire Lonhro.
He was offered as a weanling at the Magic Millions Teeley Assets Reduction in
2014 fetching $130,000 and his dam Charming Estelle was sold at the same sale
for $400,000.
She is now with Arrowfield Stud and after missing to Pierro in 2014 was sent to Japan last year for a service to
champion sire Deep Impact.
Interestingly there are six mares now back in Australia that were covered by
Deep Impact with Charming Estelle joined by Alinghi, Alverta, Lucky Raquie,
Star Fashion and You're So Good.
These mares will produce the very first Australian born foals by the champion
son of Sunday Silence later this year.
