Stakes Update for New Aquis Mare

The Listed East Cape Paddock Stakes at Fairview in South Africa last Friday was won by Encosta de Lago mare Purely Atomic, whose dam was recently purchased by Aquis Farm.

Stakes-placed twice previously, the Alan Greef trained mare won the 1600 metre feature by three-quarters of a length, her fifth win from 20 starts.

More Than ReadyA $55,000 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale purchase for Byefarm Breeders from the Coolmore draft, Purely Atomic is the 111th stakes-winner for champion sire Encosta de Lago.

She is the best of five winners from unraced Danehill mare Catching Moonbeams (IRE), a daughter of Group I winning sprinter Imperial Beauty.

Coolmore sold the current weanling from Catching Moonbeams, a filly by Camelot (IRE), for $55,000 at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale and also the mare herself for $54,000 to Aquis Farm.

The purchase looks a great result for Aquis Farm with Catching Moonbeams due to foal to So You Think and pencilled in for a date with Vinery Stud's champion sire More Than Ready (USA) this spring.
