Lime Country Purchase Gavelhouse Top Lot

Media Release - Thursday July 28
Having been in the marketplace just four months in its' new auction-based format, gavelhouse has already cracked the $1 million in turnover mark with the July auction breaking further new ground in New Zealand.

Tavistock colt from ZenadaA group of clients under Greg and Jo Griffin's progressive Lime Country banner purchased the site's highest priced lot to date sold by gavelhouse.com when bidding to $138,000 to secure the Tavistock colt from Zenada at Lot 12 from Hyde Park.

"Greg inspected the colt this morning and was particularly taken with the horse's lovely big loose walk and temperament – we felt he was just a super New Zealand bred Derby type," commented Jo.

"He's correct and vetted very well – we liked that the dam is a young mare who's a half to an Australian Group winning mare who's also a black type producer. In line with the shift in our business model going forward - focusing more on the top end - we decided he was a great addition for our Premier draft at Karaka in January.

"The group have had to go a touch over budget, you normally do for the good ones, but I think we may have had to pay more for him had most yearling sales vendors in New Zealand not already purchased their weanlings for the year. He'll round out our Premier stock this year along with other key sires like Dundeel, Savabeel, Reliable Man, I Am Invincible, O'Reilly and Epaulette."

In addition to the active local buying bench, successful sales were also made to Australian and Chinese interests with more passed in lots to be sold in the coming days.
