Trip North Pays Off for Rebel Miss

Mark Smith - Saturday July 30

Matthew Smith's faith in young stallion Krupt was rewarded when Rebel Miss led every step of the way in Saturday's Absolutely Fabulous Movie Hcp (1050m) at Doomben.

The Warwick Farm-based trainer regards Krupt as the most talented horse he has trained.

The son of Flying Spur started just three times, the last of which was an impressive win in the 2008 Group II Todman Stakes (pictured).

He was a late scratching in the Golden Slipper due to a stone bruise. Any hope of getting Krupt back to the racetrack was dashed when he fractured a splint bone.

A regular visitor to Krupt has been the Marju mare Marju Rani, the dam of Rebel Miss, who is owned by Smith's wife Melissa.

Rebel Miss' year older sister Quantrill broke her maiden at Hawkesbury in May. But she had already been beaten to the punch by Rebel Miss who opened her winning account at the first time of asking in a 1000 metre maiden at Kembla Grange back in February.

After finishing fifth at Wyong on resumption on July 12, Rebel Miss was entered in races at Rosehill and Doomben on Saturday.

It was obviously the right move to head north. Jeff Lloyd fired the daughter of Krupt out of the barriers and led at every call to register a dominant three length victory over French Jet (Jet Spur) with 2 ¼-lengths to Dapper One (Red Element) in third.

It advances the overall record of Rebel Miss to 2 wins from 3 starts with earnings of $58,085.

Krupt stands at Kooringal Stud at a fee of $5,500.
