Gai Waterhouse - This week’s going to be all about El Divino

Clinton Payne - Tuesday August 23

Champion trainer Gai Waterhouse expects her exciting colt El Divino to join his illustrious sibling Winx, and their newly born sister, by being the headlines on Saturday in the Group II Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill.

Last Saturday, El Divino's half-sister Winx made her stunning return to the track when trouncing her opponents in the Group II Warwick Stakes (1400m) with a performance jockey Hugh Bowman described as "probably her easiest win".

Less than 12-hours later their blue-hen dam Vegas Showgirl gave birth to a sister to El Divino.

"It's all been about his sisters this week which is nice but now's El Divino's time to shine," Waterhouse, who trains the colt in partnership with Adrian Bott, said.

"She's (Vegas Showgirl) obviously an outstanding broodmare.

"I've got the brother who we brought at Easter. He's an exceptional type, totally different to El Divino, they're very different types of horses."

El Divino had a solid gallop last weekend at Randwick after which jockey Hugh Bowman reported "he's ready to go" which Waterhouse endorsed at trackwork on Tuesday.

"I think he's outstanding as simple as that. I've had a few outstanding colts so I know what I'm talking about," she said. "He's right there with the top three-year-old colts I've had in the past.

"He fills the eye and does everything you could ask of him. I think he goes into Saturday's race with great chance.

"He's a very good colt."

El Divino will be joined at Rosehill on Saturday by another of the stable's better prospects, Evacuation who resumes in the three-year-old benchmark 72 handicap over 1400 metres.

Evacuation won his only start, a Kembla maiden, back in April and has been fitted up for his return with two home track trial wins.

"His (benchmark) rating isn't too high so I'm using what you could describe as an easy option, kicking him off in a benchmark race on Saturday," Waterhouse said.

"I like him; I like him a lot.

He's very much a More Than Ready, loose and laid back sort of horse that I expect will make a very good middle distance sort of horse. A very relaxed individual.

"I'm eyeing off the Caulfield Guineas for him. He'll probably go through races like the Stutt Stakes which I've used before with horses like Pierro."

Sportsbet has El Divino priced at $9 to win the Golden Rose in a fortnight while Evacuation is at $17 to claim the Caulfield Guineas in October.
