Puissance de Lune Spearheads Shamardal Sireline

Media Release - Tuesday August 23

Puissance De Lune (Ire) will parade for broodmare owners at Swettenham Stud this Sunday on the back of another Group 1 victory for his sire Shamardal.

Swettenham stands Puissance De Lune for $11,000 (inc gst) and he's the only sire son of Shamardal standing in Australia to win a Group race in Australia.

Puissance de Lune"He lost two Group 1s in head-bobbers at Flemington," Swettenham owner Adam Sangster said. "That's the difference between an $11,000 service fee and $25,000."

Leading owner Gerry Ryan raced Puissance De Lune and he supported the grey's first book with his better mares from Limerick Lane. "Gerry has another 15 booked in this year," Sangster added. "He's bought mares into double figures this year to keep supporting the horse."

Shamardal's lofty reputation in Europe has soared this year with black-type wins every week. Galileo (48) has established an unassailable lead with Shamardal (20) doing best of the rest going into the second-half of the flat season.

Shamardal sired his 100th career stakes winner when Gouache won the LR Hoppegartener Stutenpreis in Germany on August 14 and the 101st arrived with Godolphin's 2yo colt Blue Point in the G2 Gimcrack Stakes at York on Saturday.

On Sunday, Shamardal continued a tremendous weekend when his daughter Speedy Boarding landed the G1 Prix Jean Romanet (2000m) at Deauville. The James Fanshawe-trained filly had been a black-type winner of the LR Ballymacoll Stud Stakes at Newbury and G2 Prix Corrida at Saint-Cloud earlier this year.

Speedy Boarding is the 18th Group 1 winner by Shamardal.

Earlier on the Deauville card, Shamardal's 2yo filly Alrahma was runner-up to American sensation Lady Aurelia in the G1 Prix Morny.

Shamardal (Giant's Causeway) is from a full-sister to Street Cry and he completed an unbeaten juvenile campaign in the G1 Dewhurst Stakes before returning at three for further Group 1 triumphs in the French 2000 Guineas, French Derby and St. James's Place Stakes.

The sireline figured with more 2yo black-type in England on Saturday courtesy of Qatar Racing colt South Seas in the G3 Solario Stakes at Sandown. He's the 18th stakes winner by Shamardal's former shuttler Lope De Vega.

Puissance De Lune waltzed home in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Flemington during his first Australian carnival and twelve months later he started favourite for the Cox Plate only to suffer a tendon injury that hampered his career in 2014.

Breeders who can't make Swettenham stallion parade this Sunday can inspect the stud's stallions by appointment. For further information, contact Adam Sangster (0418 543 633), Brian Gorman (0429 660 266) or Rachel Spriggens (0439 101 195).
