Cambridge Stud's well credentialed shuttle sire
Power (GB) made the best start possible to his stud career when his first
runner in New Zealand returned a winner at Wanganui on Saturday.
Sir Patrick Hogan is planning to keep a close eye on Gift of Power(image Race Images) for the next
week.
He was delighted to see her burn off her rivals in the first juvenile race of
the season, the Vespa Standing at Wellfield Lodge Plate.
"She's going to Cambridge Stud on Monday and Sir Patrick has got a paddock
saved for her outside his bedroom window,” said Graeme Rogerson, who prepares
the precocious filly with his wife Debbie.
Gift Of Power was bred by Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan, who have retained an
ownership interest after she was a $180,000 purchase out of their draft at
Karaka earlier this year with Rogerson's grand-daughter Bailey selecting her.
"She liked her and bought her - I thought she paid too much, but she's cheap
now,” Rogerson said.
"She's a real professional who jumps and rails well and she's only going to get
better.
"She'll run in the Wellesley Stakes next and then we'll make a plan to get her
to the Karaka Million.”
Gift Of Power is the first Southern Hemisphere winner for Power, who has made a
good start in Europe where he has already left 14 first crop winners headed by
the Group III winner Peace Envoy.
The dual Group I winning son of Oasis Dream is already short-priced favourite
to be crowned New Zealand's champion freshman sire.
Gift Of Power is the first foal of the Group I NZ 1000 Guineas placegetter
Capital Diamond and the latest success story for the famed Eight Carat family.
