Mark Smith - Thursday October 13

When Maurus won the Ipswich Cup back in June we were none too complimentary on his half-brother by Galileo who had made $3,600,000 guineas as a yearling but his sole win in seven starts came in a maiden at Gowran Park.

That horse was Sir Isaac Newton. Just a matter of hours after Maurus captured the Ipswich Cup, Sir Isaac Newton had his first stakes win on  board in the Listed Wolferton Handicap at Ascot.

He did not stop there. Following a Group III win at The Curragh, Sir Isaac Newton was in the big league taking on the likes of Highland Reel and Wings Of Desire in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot.

He was far from disgraced in finishing fourth and filled the same spot behind the top-class Postponed and Highland Reel in the Group I Juddmonte International Stakes at York.

The son of Galileo prepped for a trip to Australia for Saturday's $3 million BMW Caulfield Cup (2400m) with a disappointing 10th of 12 in the Irish Champion Stakes at The Curragh.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained entire will make his local debut two races after his year-older half-brother Maurus contests the Group III  Coongy Cup (2000m)

Carrying the colours of Paul Fudge's Waratah Thoroughbreds, the son of Medicean is the third foal, and Sir Isaac Newton the fourth foal, of the stakes-placed Danehill mare  Shastye.

Her first foal, a filly by Sadler's Wells named Shabyt made 350,000  gns as a yearling but did not make the track.

Her second foal, the Galileo filly Secret Gesture, has been the success story of the team to date.

A 230,000  gns buyback, Secret Gesture won at Group II level and was placed in five Group Ones, including a second in the Epsom Oaks.

Maurus was her third foal and the only one not sold as a yearling.

A year later Secret Gesture's full brother Sir Isaac Newton made a whopping $3.6 million  gns to the bid of MV Magnier in Book I of the Tattersalls October Yearling sale.

At last year's Tattersalls October Yearling sale,  Shastye's Street Cry filly made 800,000  gns to the bid of Charlie Gordon-Watson.

There's plenty of depth to  Shastye's pedigree.

She is a half-sister to Group I Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Sagamix (Linamix), Group I Criterium de Saint-Cloud winner Sagacity (Highest Honour), and Group II Prix de Malleret winner Sage Et Jolie (Linamix) who is the dam of Group I Prix d'Ispahan winner Sageburg.

They are out of the  Sagace  mare Saganeca, the Champion older mare in Italy in 1992, who is also the dam of the non-winner  Sagalina herself the dam of Group 1 Prix Saint-Alary winner  Sagawara.

The sire of Sir Isaac Newton, the great Galileo (photo Mark Smith), is having another incredible season.

Less than a week ago he had two winners at the highest level on the same day.

Photo Call won the First Lady Stakes at Keeneland and Churchill won the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket.

The previous day Rhododendron captured the Group 1 Fillies Mile at Newmarket at the expense of another daughter of Galileo, Hydrangea.

That came five days after Galileo's history making trifecta in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, which came a day after Alice Springs won the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket.

What a  sire he is.
