Australian
thoroughbreds featured with a winning treble at Kenilworth in South Africa on
Wednesday with victories for Whisky Baron (Manhattan Rain), Rinjani (Choisir)
and Quick Brown Fox, who is the second South African winner for Newgate Farm's
exciting young sire Foxwedge.
Prepared by Brett Crawford, three year-old filly Quick Brown Fox was making her
debut in the 1200 metre maiden and powered clear to win by two and quarter
lengths as a short priced favourite.
Quick Brown Fox was a $340,000 Inglis Premier purchase for C Roscoe / J Ramsden
from the Supreme Thoroughbreds draft and was the most expensive filly by her
sire at that sale.
She is the second winner for Carlton Show, an unraced half-sister by Hold That
Tiger (USA) to stakes-winner Carlton Spirit.
Group III placed twice previously, the Brett Crawford trained Manhattan Rain
four year-old Whisky Baron posted his second win from nine starts when
successful over 1600 metres by a length and a quarter.
A $50,000 Inglis Easter purchase from
the Arrowfield draft for C Roscoe/J Ramsden, Whisky Baron is one of four
winners from Tazkara (Fr), an unraced Sinndar half-sister to French Group III
winner Tashelka.
Also breaking through for his first win was three year-old Choisir colt Rinjani,
who scored by a long neck over 1600 metres for the Candice Bass-Robinson stable
after placing at two of his previous runs.
An $80,000 Inglis Premier purchase for World Wide Bloodstock from the Milburn
Creek draft, Rinjani was bred by Makybe and is a half-brother to Group I placed
Believe from Optimist, an unraced Red Ransom (USA) half-sister to triple
Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva.
