Quality Never Goes Out of Fashion

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday November 30
In coming weeks as we move towards the start of the 2017 yearling sale season you will no doubt be bombarded from every direction as to the merits of the progeny of our new and up and coming stallions, but invariably it pays not to overlook the obvious.

Vinery Stud's More Than Ready (USA) is the original outcross sire that actually works.

While others have come and gone and enjoyed sporadic success, this handsome black Halo line stallion is the gift that keeps on giving.

Prized Icon - Grant CourtneyMore Than Ready produced three new Group I winners last season demonstrating his class and versatility as a sire.

BRC Queensland Derby (2400m) winner Eagle Way is now trained in Hong Kong.

ATC Champagne Stakes (1600m) winner Prized Icon is now a dual Group I winner after capturing the VRC Derby.

WATC Kingston Town Stakes(1800m) winner Perfect Reflection is favoured to win the race again this weekend.

More Than Ready might have made his name on the back of Slipper winners such as Sebring and Phelan Ready, but his ability to sire fast juveniles is just one string in his bow.

Turning 20 next year, More Than Ready has extended his influence into the next generation as a sire of sires through Sebring and Pluck (USA) and also as a broodmare sire.

He is the sire of the dams of 40 stakes-winners including Australasian Group I winners Miracles of Life (Not a Single Doubt), Rebel Dane (California Dane), Atlante (Fastnet Rock), Delectation (Shamardal (USA) and Luna Rossa (Written Tycoon).

Always a favourite with Magic Millions buyers, More Than Ready has sired Augusta Proud and Phelan Ready to win the race, while he was also sire of the dam of the 2014 winner Unencumbered.

He already has a serious contender for the 2017 race with the Kelly Schweida trained filly Cellargirl winning impressively in class record time on November 19 at Eagle Farm.

More Than Ready has 31 entries for the 2017 Magic Millions Yearling Sale(January 11 – 15) including six that will be offered by Vinery Stud.

Lot 145 from Vinery is a filly with a pedigree that will put her on the must inspect list for all serious bloodstock investors as she offers a way into the highly prized family of Golden Slipper winner Bint Marscay.

She is a three-quarter sister-in-blood to Group II ATC Sweet Embrace Stakes winner Always Allison being the third foal of Group II placed Encosta de Lago mare Kyria.

Kyria is a grand-daughter of Mannington, whose More Than Ready colt Benicio won the Group I VRC Victoria Derby, so this family has enjoyed good success at the highest level with More Than Ready.

Below are some obvious pedigree standouts guaranteed to tempt buyers including:

Lot 127 Colt More Than Ready (USA) x Jolie Bay – Segenhoe Stud – First foal of Group II winning daughter of Fastnet Rock.

Lot 208 Filly More Than Ready (USA) x Mary Marvel – Strawberry Hill Stud – Three-quarter sister-in-blood to champion mare More Joyous.

Lot 224 Colt More Than Ready (USA) x Military Rose – Baramul Stud- From Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Military Rose.

Lot 339 Colt More Than Ready (USA) x Purespeed – Corumbene Stud – Full brother to champion 2YO and leading sire Sebring.

Lot 349 Colt More Than Ready (USA) x Quintessential – Bhima Thoroughbreds – First foal of Group I Queensland Oaks winner Quintessential.

Lot 456 Filly More Than Ready (USA) x Single Style - Vinery Stud - First foal of a stakes-winner by Not a Single Doubt, so bred on the reverse cross to $1.5 million earner Miracles of Life.
